The first workshop was hosted by CIRAD in Montpellier
(France) and was
attended by around 31 researchers who developed additional plans to move
ICGI towards its scientific goals.
In 2002, the first scientific ICGI Workshop was held in
Nanjing, China hosted
by Nanjing Agricultural University and the meeting spanned 4 days
attended
by more than 90 researchers from 14 countries contributed 105 oral and
poster presentations and results were published and available on
website of
ICGI (
http://icgi.tamu.edu
).
While meeting in Nanjing, the ICGI agreed to try to hold
its next meeting in
India, during 2004. At the World Cotton Research Conference-2003 held in
South Africa,the ICGI formally announced its intent to hold the 4
th
ICGI
Workshop in India ,late in 2004.
ICGI functions through formalized structure and an
International Steering
Committee.In addition to an overall chair(Dr.David Stelly) and co-chair
(Dr.
Russell Kohel),there is a chair and co-chair for each of 5 work groups.
The
five Workgroups are Structural Genomics, Functional Genomics, Germplasm
and Genetic Stocks, Evolutionary and Comparative Genomics and
Bioinformatics.
Each of these Workgroups is charged with executing the
ICGI mission by:
1. Identifying the strategic research goals.
2. Formulating long-term collaborations.
3. Identifying shared resources
4. Reporting activities and results to the ICGI community.
